An Open Letter to Congress

An Open Letter to Congress, (especially those from Mississippi):

I begin by saying, that I am one of the nearly 3 million more people who did NOT vote for the president currently occupying the White House.  More important, I am a person who can trace their roots back to the mid-17th century in THIS country.  My family fought for the United States of America and the freedom its Constitution promised.

My concern for the future of this, already great, country has never been greater than it is today.

When did we become a dictatorship?

When will you (Congressmen) stand up for what is right for this country?  When will you begin to enforce the values on which this country was based?  When will you stand up to the self-absorbed and onerous pontificate sitting in the oval office?

He seems to labor under the impression that a president’s job is to make law.  Making law is what Congress, you guys, are paid to do.  It is not your job to rubber stamp his buffoonery. It is your job to vet his picks for his cabinet.  His picks are some of the most ill-suited for the jobs to which they’ve been tasked that this 62 year-old taxpayer has ever seen. Yet, time and again, you seem hell-bent on passing these ill-advised choices on to the American people.

Many of you also cannot seem to make up your minds about what is right.  During the campaign, many of you called his plans un-American, and against the principles of our country.  Why, then, are they now to be celebrated?  Banning immigrants from America goes against the very reason this country was founded.  We are a nation of immigrants!  I don’t see any Native Americans among the lot of you! And if you’re going to ban immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries, why not include the nations with the largest Muslim populations, like say, India? I have nothing against Indians, but I know the guy sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. has business interests in India, so I think his ban is like most of his rhetoric, just for show.

Reopening the Keystone pipeline is another much-touted executive order that some of you applaud in the name of the American economy.  I guess you must not realize that the Keystone project is being paid for by a Canadian company; and, the vast number of jobs it creates are temporary construction jobs for Americans and engineering jobs for Canadians.  Not exactly a boon for the American economy, just for the investors in the companies involved.

I realize that you claim to see yourselves representing your constituents.  You need to remember that your constituents are all the people in the districts you represent, NOT the companies who pay for your ear.

You can begin to represent all your constituents by listening to all of us, not just the ones who tell you what you want to hear.  I believe the demonstrations against some of the executive orders coming out of the oval office are a testament to that fact.  People are watching and we are listening.  Are You?  I guess the next election cycle will tell.

Sincerely,
