So, we are just a few days from an historic election in which a narcissistic, bigoted, bullying, rapist, serial adultery was elected to the White House by a bunch of angry white men and the ignorant women who raised and continue to support them…all in the name of Christian, family values. REALLY?!
I guess I missed the whole, family values means cheating on three wives and having multiple kids by each while bullying and mocking anyone smarter than you, lesson at Sunday school. Kind of glad I did.
While I have commented on some peoples’ posts on Facebook, at no point did I call anyone out. Not Once! However, people I do not know and who do not know me have felt compelled to call me out in their response posts, you know who you are. I will probably find you sitting on the front pew on Sunday. Their posts have been very condescending and indicative of the current mood in this once great country. In addition, they have MISSED THE POINT! I am not surprised. While they support claims about why the electoral college is important in a democracy they point out it is in fact not a democracy. Anyone who has ever studied the history of this country or its civics knows that; however, since its beginning the United States of America has self-identified as the world’s first democracy.
Some people suggest that my disdain over the Electoral College is a result of the most recent election. These people do NOT know me. If they did, they would know I have been in favor of ridding our government of this antiquated system since I was in high school and realized that my vote for president would never count toward the outcome of the election. I find it disgusting that 120+ million people voted, but 538 people get to decide who wins. I wonder how Trump supporters would feel if 50 of those people voted different from their red-leaning states dictate, which they can constitutionally do. Only 27 states have laws regulating how their electors must vote. And most of those only require that the person sign a party loyalty agreement and only one includes arrest as a penalty for changing their vote. THAT my friends is the point of my disdain for the Electoral College.
So bring on your condescension and misunderstanding. Because I really do not give a crap about your opinion. My opinion is the only one that really matters to me. That is the difference between an independent thinker and those who cannot think for themselves, but would rather choose to be slaves to the mob-mentality of ignorance.
