Throughout the long political season, I have been particularly annoyed at the trump line, make America great again. I always thought America was great. And contrary to Ann Coulter’s typically ignorant remark, my grandparents and their great-grandparents were BORN in this country; yet I, did not vote for her preferred narcissistic, bigoted, bullying, rapist candidate.
Sadly, I awoke this morning to realize that America is great no longer. Turns out that the only thing that scares ignorant people more than a narcissistic, bigoted, bullying, rapist is an intelligent, inclusive, graceful woman with ambition.
I am also really tired of seeing candidates win the popular vote only to lose in the Electoral College. This is the second time in 16 years this has been the case. It is PAST time to abolish this antiquated system; but, I wonder if the same people calling for its abolition yesterday (when they believed rigged polls rhetoric) will still call for it today? Somehow, I doubt it.
I am not bitter, but I am profoundly sad. Ignorance breeds its own sort of mob mentality. Americans are particularly ignorant of finding the facts before making decisions. I’ve seen this time and time again as I’ve had the unfortunate job of tracking best practices in government policy. Thomas Jefferson once said that ‘people who only get their information from newspapers are less informed than people who get no news at all’. I think you can insert your news organization of choice these days, but Fox News in particular is not only less informative than most, but also notorious for making stuff up. Something I might not know if I had not known the facts of their stories beforehand. I do NOT rely on one outlet for my news.
I get that Americans are scared. The last Republican president led the country into the worst recession since the Great Depression, and many people have not recovered. However, unemployment is lower than it has been in decades and people who have never been able to afford health insurance have coverage for the first time. These things happened under a Democratic president whose very hold on the office was met with more racism than this country has seen since the 1960’s. Get ready, because I think we will see an uptick in unemployment again as well as a lack of available health insurance.
So, the mob mentality of ignorance and bigotry wins the day. Ignorance because some people are so ill-informed about the facts. Ignorance and bigotry because people, especially uneducated women (not my take, but the facts based on exit polls), are so threatened by a woman of substance that they would vote for a man who has no regard for anyone who isn’t himself. He is a serial adulterer and groper with a charge of raping a 13-year-old hanging over his head. How any woman can justify voting for such a man is beyond me, unless they only have sons, because we all know ‘boys will be boys’. Again, the ignorance of a mob mentality rules the day.
Take heart folks, the majority of the people in this country are paying attention. The majority of the people did NOT vote for the narcissistic, bigoted, bullying, rapist. The majority of states did. And since most of you believe that the Constitution gives you the right to bear arms, take heed. What the Constitution actually says is, ‘for the purpose of raising a militia,’ it grants the right to bear arms. Do not make the mistake that you are the only ones armed here.
Do I want to raise a militia? Um, NO! What I want is for all the people who did NOT vote for the narcissistic, bigoted, bullying, rapist to go somewhere else to prosper. These are people who are in the majority, and they are probably a majority of the well-educated and productive members of the population. Then, all the narrow-minded, quasi-Christians who do not practice the tolerance spoken of in the Bible can flounder in the remnants of a once great nation.
Those of you who believe a narcissistic, bigoted, bullying, rapist huckster’s line of BS can make America great again are sadly delusional.
Alas, I am just sadly disillusioned.
